Dripless Unity Candles for Weddings and Other Notes

The Unity Candle ceremony involves 3 unity candles for weddings – 2 taper candles at both sides, and a middle pillar candle which usually has a candle stand. This ceremony is initiated with the mothers of the bride and groom(or any available family representative) lighting the taper candles in each side.

The bride and groom will then exchange their wedding vows, then they will use the taper candles to light the middle pillar candle at the same time. The whole affair is very symbolic of the nature of weddings – two families joining together, and the union of two different people.

This is a non – traditional part of American weddings, but more and more people are embracing it since they are seeing the beauty and meaning behind the whole ceremony. Unity candles are flexible enough that they can be used in a meaningful non – religious ceremony, not just for religious weddings.

In some versions of the lighting of the unity candle, children of the couple or their children from previous marriage(s) can partake in this solemn ceremony. The problem arises when you realize – they might get physically hurt! From the little fire from the candle to wax drippings, surely you wouldn’t want your child/ren to be hurt, especially if they are just kids. Or you just don’t want that after your wedding, the altar is filled with smoke and the floor is covered in wax! That is no one’s dream wedding, I tell you.

unity candles for weddingsThere are different types of unity candles and unity candle accessories you can use to avoid the abovementioned hassles, but first make sure that the place where your wedding will take place allows the lighting of candles. When shopping for candles, make sure that what you are buying are smokeless and dripless.

Yes, dearies, there are smokeless candles. Thank goodness to technology, no one in the altar will have to go home or go to the reception with their noses full of soot. Dripless candles are also made of wax, but they have been fashioned in such a way that there is little to no possibility of the wax dripping.

Take note that such candles will still burn faster and will still drip if they are placed near a fan or window, or inside a very hot room. If the church where your wedding will be held have ceiling fans, trim the wick of your taper candles to ¼ or less to have a smaller flame. Also place a protective covering under the candle as a prevention for any untoward burns.

You can also purchase candles in different shapes such as squares or rounded ones. These shapes doesn’t permit the trickling the wax that much as compared to conventional stick candles. Oil unity candles can also be used, but if you have little children involved, it is best to stay away from these as they can get burned if they accidentally topple it down.
