Unity Candle Holders

Candles don’t stand up on their own, so you will need some unity candle holders. Like with the candles themselves, you will find a lot of varity in your options and what look you want.

The Unity Candle is sometimes set in a candelabra. This may be the prettiest set up but whether or not this is what you will use depends on a number of considerations. For one, how much room do you have at your wedding location? The candelabra takes up some space, so you have got to be sure you have enough room for it without it crowding up the area where the wedding ceremony is. Plus, you’ve got to walk over to where it is when it’s time to light it. Be sure you have enough room for all that movement without wedding attendants having to move here and there. The less movement, the less chance for error.

The unity candle in a candelabra holder is nice for a large and formal wedding. You do want to check on a few things, and some of this goes for any type of unity candle holder you use. If possible, at your rehearsal, practice going through the steps of walking over, taking the taper candles and lighting the unity candle. You have to be sure the candles are easy to pull from their bases, yet go back in securely. You don’t want something flimsy or that may easily fall over if you bump it. Think fire department at your wedding! You don’t want that. One other note. At one wedding, a bride could not get her taper candle out. So she decided it must screw out. Unfortunately, that was a sleeve on the candle, so when she unscrewed it and pulled it up, she snuffed out her candle. Fortunately, the groom reached over and pulled out another candle from the candelabra so she could light the unity candle. He scored some big point with that move! She was bit embarrassed by it all but no harm was done.

Before the wedding, check to make sure there is enough wick on the candle to make lighting it easy. How many times have I seen couples struggle to get their candle lit. It is rather difficult with you can’t see any wick there. Also, make sure the candle is place up there right side up. At one wedding, the candle was placed upside down (they are big candles flat on both ends) and there was no wick to light. The groom used his large index finger to dig enough wax out so they could find a wick to light.

Now, if you are not using a candelabra, there are many other configurations to pick from, including many table top unity candle holders. These do work nicely and can have some advantage over what we have been discussing. Size is one. They take up less room – though you will need a table of some sort to place it on. It would be something more difficult to knock over accidentally. And the price can be better. Which one you get ultimately depends on your personal preference. If cost is a big issue, you can check for cheap unity candle holders and wholesale unity candle holders.

Many individuals are asked for their hand in marriage daily. Those that say yes often are given a ring and are considered engaged. A party often follows the acceptance of a proposal, which is held to announce the news to loved ones. After the engagement party the couple must begin planning their wedding.

The person who is planning a wedding has many choices to make. What type of food to serve at the reception must be decided upon, Decorations for the church and the hall must be selected. Accommodations must be made to have the reception and service either indoors or outdoors. A dress must be chose for the lady and dresses must be selected for the bridesmaids. A maid of honor and best man must be picked and there are many other decisions to be made. The wedding planner’s to-do list is extremely long.

Many other arrangements must also be made before the big day occurs such as what traditions should be incorporated into the service. The bride must wear a white dress, the tossing of the bouquet, jumping over the broom, the wife to be wearing something old, new, borrowed and blue are examples of traditions often upheld at weddings. Many other traditions are also often held to at these types of ceremonies.

One popular custom that many brides use in their weddings is a unity candle lighting ceremony. Family members and the bride and groom take part in a candle lighting ritual that symbolizes unity in this type of service. This tradition is very popular.

Special candles are used for unity services and these candles can be purchased from a store pre-decorated or they can be fancied up at home. Three candles are involved, two tapers and one pillar. The two tapers are generally plain white without any décor on them. The pillar is white and ornamented. Many types of ornamentation can be used to make the candle special. One way to make it unique is to wrap an invitation or a picture of the two individuals together around it. Painted flowers or hearts will also make it look gorgeous.

Any type of material is appropriate to use as the candle holders; however, crystal and brass are the most popular types that are used. A large brass unity candle holder can be purchased or rented from a party supply store. Although the candelabras are often rented, the pillar candle is often kept and relit on the anniversary of the wedding every year.

Sometimes friends and family ignite the tapers; however, it is often the mother of the groom and the mother of the bride that lights the taper candles. They do this before the vows are said. This symbolizes the mothers love for their children. After the vows are said the happy couple each takes one of the tapers and light the pillar candle together using the two flames. The tapers are left burning as a symbol that the mothers will continue to love their children always.

During the lighting service something heartfelt is often said about love and family; however, sometimes instead of heartfelt words being spoken a song is played that has special meaning to the two individuals. The song is played during and after the candles are lit.

The marriage ceremony is a tradition in itself. The ritual is a way for two people to commit themselves to each other in front of their friends and family. Turning two flames into three is also a symbol. It shows a visual image of two flames becoming three, which means the two families have joined together to become one larger family. It also represents the couple combining their lives and joining each other as one.
