Unity Candles Sets - Types and Styles of Unity Candles
So many choices to make when planning your wedding. A candle is a candle, right? When it
comes to Unity Candles, not exactly. There are many varieties of unity candles.
A good way to go about it is to look for unity candles sets. These will
have everything that you need including the pillar candle, the two taper candles and your unity candle holders. But
before you get the unity candle kit, you'll need to decide among some of the candle types.
Consider some of the choices you have.
The Ivory Unity Candle is pretty standard. Most of them that I see
at weddings are ivory. But one size doesn’t fit all, so you can find a unique unity
candle that suits you and your wedding style.
You can have your candle personalized. Have it monogrammed or even a
family crest put on it. You can have pictures or photos put on your candle. The Corinthian
candle has the love verse from I Corinthians on it. Or I suppose you could get just about anything
put on the candle to make it one of a kind.
Most unity candles are big, fat and round. But there is so much more. Like something
fancy? There are carved candles that look like works of art. There are cross unity
candles, unity candles with wedding bells, doves, hearts or butterflies. Some candles float!
There is a Irish or Celtic unity candle. On it is the traditional Irish
wedding blessing.
May your hands be forever blessed in friendship.
And may your hearts joined forever in love.
One fascinating twist on what you usually see is the oil unity candle.
Very elegant looking, and a bit more pricey, but might be worth it to you. We’re talking with gold or silver leaf
stand. Very beautiful as keepsake. It’s glass and can be refilled with oil, so you could light it from time on
special occasions. Maybe for a yearly vow renewal in front of the fireplace.
Now on the other end of the spectrum is for those who do like the symbolism of the unity
candle but don’t want to spend a lot. If you are looking for a cheap unity candle, take a look at
the video below. Learn how to make your own unity candle.
Whatever kind of candle you choose, expensive or not, you should check on a few things
before using the candle in your wedding. You can have the most beautiful set in the world, but the ceremony may not
go well without some precautions.
One is to make sure the the whole thing is set up right...that is, it is sturdy and won't
fall over. You don't want a fire in the church or wedding hall.
Second, make sure the wick is long enough to light. I have seen a number of occassions
where the couple could not get the candle lit because there was little or no wick. Three, make sure you have a good
way to light the candle(s). Matches and cigarette lighters are not the preferred option. They just really don't fit
in with the formality of the event! One thing I have seen work well is to have votive candle prelit before the
ceremony. The mothers are able to light the taper candles from it. If either or both of the taper candles go out
before the couple lights the big center candle, they can relight them from the votives.
The Unity Canle is is a keepsake that you can treasure for a long time to come. It is
something to keep from your wedding that you can place on your fireplace mantel or somewhere special in your home
as a reminder of your big day and the commitment you made to live your lives as one.
